Project Title
Role of neuronal ensembles in drug addiction
Time Commitment
11-15 hours/week
Method
Unpaid
Possible Co-Authorship
Yes
Project Description
Drug addiction is a learned disorder, characterized by unusually strong learned associations about drug rewards and drug cues. These learned associations are encoded within the brain by patterns of neurons that are synchronously activated by the drug rewards and cues associated with the rewards. Our lab pairs drug self-administration models with transgenic rats, biochemical analysis, and microscopy to study the contribution of drug-paired neuronal ensembles in addiction-like behavior.
