Roles of cochlear detoxification in age-related hearing loss
Time Commitment
1-5 hours/week, 6-10 hours/week
Possible Co-Authorship
Project Description

The central hypothesis of our research proposal is that the cochlear detoxification system plays an essential role in maintaining inner ear and auditory function by constantly eliminating ototoxic drugs and chemicals throughout the lifespan. To test this hypothesis, we are currently investigating the role of cochlear glutathione transferase detoxification in maintaining auditory function in mice under normal conditions or ototoxic drug treatment across the lifespan.
