Biography

Hello! My name is Sarah Murphy and I am the 2021-2022 Executive Director for CURBS! I am a third year undergraduate student majoring in microbiology and cell science with a minor in health disparities in society. After earning my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue a career in medicine.

My current research interests are in the biomedical sciences. I currently study adeno-associated viruses as a potential therapeutic vector for a variety of neurodegenerative diseases through capsid recombination for cell-specific transduction. Lots of big, fancy words that mean I change proteins on the virus shell and see if it becomes more infectious for specific cells! I have been involved in research for a little over 2 years now, and I look forward to continuing my studies in my final year as a gator undergraduate.

I love that I am able to share my passion for research with my amazing CURBS family who are all so supportive and encouraging of one another. This organization is about more than just promoting research–it is about showing that research is not “one size fits all.” We all come from different backgrounds, experiences, and fields of interest, but we all share a life-long passion for investigation. If you have any questions about CURBS or just want to chat, send me an email at sarahmurphy@ufl.edu.
