Why I got involved with research

One of the main reasons I got involved in research is because it provides me with an outlet to use the information that I learn through academics and put it in a laboratory setting. This is very appealing to me because the knowledge that is gained from research has the potential to create new innovations in the area of medicine and dentistry. Through dental research, I hope to discover information that can influence the clinical setting.

Research Project

Effect of SNRI antidepressant on periodontal bone coupling process

Antidepressants are commonly used by many individuals as a treatment for depression. Recent evidence has suggested that the usage of these medications are associated with bone loss. One of the main aims of this research project is to determine the effects of one major class of antidepressant serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) on the osteoclast development and the functions in the periodontium.
