The goal of this research project is to study how consumers perceive the idea of purchasing fresh produce via the internet. Online retail shopping has become the norm in nearly every sector of the economy and online food shopping options are becoming increasingly available in a wide variety of areas. With the e-commerce aspect of online grocery food delivery becoming more and more prevalent in today’s society, I am interested to know how consumers feel about this potential culture shift. I plan on administering a survey to students at the University of Florida that will help determine their opinions/perspectives on purchasing produce online compared to buying it in person. While I expect some consumers to prefer physically selecting their own fresh produce, others may be more inclined to simply shop online for all of their food needs. Overall, my goal is to determine college students’ perspectives on purchasing fresh produce online and analyze their opinions on the apparent shift towards online grocery shopping.
