The purpose of this project is to understand the barriers for college students with food insecurity to use SNAP. Partnering with the Office of Student Affairs, we will collect survey data from University Florida students about student’s knowledge of SNAP, food security status, food resource utilization, and social status. The survey will also assess willingness to apply SNAP if criteria are expanded by the College Hunger Student Act of 2019. After, we will interview 30 students identifying as food-insecure about SNAP benefits and other food resources. We will then analyze the data collected to understand how to increase SNAP utilization during students’ times of need.
