Research Project

Atomistic simulation of defect interactions in metals during plastic deformation

The presence and interaction of crystal defects in metals influences properties associated with plastic deformation, such as yield strength and ductility. Research on defects in metals has led to advancements in predicting and engineering deformation properties. The present research will simulate the physical behavior of metals on the atomic scale using molecular dynamics simulations, with the software LAMMPS and the HiPerGator supercomputer. Defects will be introduced, and their interactions during deformation will be studied. The effects of these interactions on behavior at larger length scales will attempt to be quantified.
