Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Other (e.g. queer or questioning) (LGBT+) identified LGBTQ+ adolescents are a part of a marginalized community. This study will be a part of a larger community based participatory research (CBPR) study on the “Familial, geographic, and social determinants of mental wellbeing in rural LGBTQ+ adolescents”. This first step will be integral in gaining an understanding of the work previously completed regarding the mental wellbeing of Rural LGBTQ+ adolescents. The Purpose of this Undergraduate Scholar project is to work under the guidance, direction and supervision of Dr. Jeanne Marie Stacciarini to perform a scope review of literature about the mental health of rural LGBTQ+ adolescents. More specifically, this study aims to: 1) Describe protective factors and stressors of mental wellbeing related to LGBTQ+ sexual orientation in rural adolescents and 2) Describe the mental health issues related to sexual minority in rural adolescents.
