The Living Community Challenge for Environmental and Urban Sustainability

The Living Community Challenge is a strict green certification program that calls for entire neighborhoods to be self-sustaining, with low life-cycle costs and high standards for living conditions. Sustainability, and especially green building certification systems, are often seen as the domain of the wealthy. This paper will identify and analyze the viability of the Living Community Challenge in revitalizing the infrastructure of impoverished neighborhoods, while simultaneously attempt to prove that sustainability can be used to improve the world both economically and environmentally.
