The project aims to apply the field of machine learning and biomedical data science in the hopes of discovering new biomarkers for Parkinson’s Disease. Due to the optic nerve’s direct connection to the brain it has been shown that the eye can be used as a none invasive method to visualize the brains condition. The project looks to take fundus eye images from Parkinson’s patients and use them to train a machine learning network. The network will create a classification algorithm which can then be applied in a clinical setting. The project hopes to potentially identify unique biomarkers that are associated with Parkinson’s and provide a new method for earlier diagnosis. This project hopes to expand the medical applications of machine learning and provide another tool for Parkinson’s diagnosis.
