Land Use Regulation and Housing Affordability

Local land use regulations that restrict the construction of new housing have been criticized for generally increasing the price of housing in the area. In this paper, I will explore the relationship between the level of regulation and the growth of the price of housing in America’s most populated cities. To measure the level of regulation, I will use the 2018 Wharton Residential Land Use Regulation Index, a comprehensive survey of the land use regulatory practices throughout America.
