Research Project

Examining Influential Mentoring Relationships in First-Generation Students' Higher Education Journeys

In this study, I will utilize social network analysis to understand the influential relationships that aided First-Generation Gators in their higher-education journeys while in high school. I will focus specifically on mentoring relationships that existed during high school and why those relationships were influential to participants’ journeys. By taking a closer look at mentoring relationships, we can better understand the way mentoring exists in schools and adds value to the higher-education journey of First-Generation students in high school. I hope this research can help improve equity in college and career readiness and college access for minoritized students.
