Why I got involved with research

I got involved with research to be able to apply my knowledge and get hands on experience in my future field. I wanted to get a better understanding of the industry and understand the use of the concepts taught in class in the real world.

Research Project

Laser Cleaning Surfaces

In my research with Dr. Diaz, we will strive to develop a method for removing contaminants without damaging of the underlying layers of artwork pieces. To achieve this goal, we will be studying the interaction of laser light with a wide range of materials such as paints, pigments and resins, as well as substrates such as fabric, wood and ceramics. Laser parameters such as laser wavelength, energy and beam size would be tested. Some of the physicochemical properties that will be considered to determine the form of interaction between substrates, coatings, and contaminants.
