The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of People of Colors’ traumatic experiences being involuntarily hospitalized.
Specifically, I aim to answer the following research questions:
1. What are the key moments People of Color describe as contributing to a “traumatic” involuntary hospitalization?
2. How do People of Color make sense of this experience?
This study seeks to fill this gap in the literature by qualitatively exploring the processes deemed traumatic to People of Color who have been hospitalized without their consent. The ultimate aim is to develop an increased awareness of both the “what” and “how” related to trauma in the context of an involuntary hospitalization for this understudied population.
