Over the next year, I will be selecting blueberry plants to receive three treatments in order to determine carbohydrate sources for berry production. On a single plant, I will chose one branch to be girdled (bark stripped from branch), one to be girdled and have all leaves about the girdle mark removed, and one branch to serve as a control. After harvest, I will analyze the yield of the branches, the starch composition of the branches, and the carbohydrate content of the berries produced. Understanding where berries get their sugars will be very helpful in improving the quality of berries.
