The purpose of this project is to identify legacy effects of past management on soil organic carbon in pine plantations. I will be taking soils samples from plots within the Intensive Management Practices Assessment Center—a slash-loblolly pine plantation that has been repeatedly measured by the Forest Biology Research Cooperative—in Gainesville, FL. These samples will be homogenized and analyzed for carbon and nitrogen concentrations. This research has important implications for pine plantation productivity and carbon sequestration.
