Comparative Study of ‘Johad’ System and Bisalpur Dam in Rajasthan, India?

This research project examines the effectiveness of the decentralized, low-cost, community based ‘Johad’ system of water conservation compared to the large, concrete Bisalpur dam in Rajasthan, India and to discuss the potential applications, benefits and challenges of using such strategies. ‘Johads’ are percolated earthen ponds that harvest rainwater and recharge the groundwater.
